Each column is one startup; the five most covered and the top score are named. Stories: articles in the 75 outlets naming the company, 28 Sep 2025 to 28 Sep 2026. A story naming two startups counts for each: 495 stories, 588 mentions. Median 5; 7 with none.

The message score

Three in four startups score 8 to 12 out of 20. Only one scores 16 or more.

We scored each company’s own messaging, from homepage to LinkedIn, on four factors, 0 to 5 each. Of the 70, 29 say plainly what they do (Clarity 4 or more) and 35 explain a specific difference (Differentiation 3 or more). Policy awareness is weakest: 13 score 0.

The most covered · 5

They score 7 to 11. Doctronic leads with 81 stories (14% of the total) on a score of 9: clear about what it does, thin on what sets it apart. Regulating AI accounts for 37 of them. b.well, next with 43, doesn’t say what it does in its headline; its coverage leans on partnerships (16) and CMS’s health-data push (13).

Clear and heard · 23

Of the 70, 23 score 11 or more and have five or more stories. Their biggest stories are news they made: R1 buying Humata Health, Nourish’s $100M round, Berry Street’s partnerships with Amazon and Walmart, Trilliant Health’s research on demand and prices.

Heard but weak · 1

Aradigm has the lowest score, 5, and 13 stories. Its headline, “Creating sustainable access to life-saving medicines,” doesn’t say what it sells; its coverage is about who pays for cell and gene therapies.

Medicare’s AI prior-authorization pilot is the running story.

WISeR, Medicare’s AI prior-authorization pilot, runs through the year: vendors picked in November, a lawsuit, reports of delayed care, a House committee’s unanimous vote to block its funding, a failed Senate vote to end it and, in September, documents showing delays and tech failures. One startup is inside the story: Humata Health, a WISeR vendor that R1 agreed to buy in August.

most-covered startups (13 or more stories) score 2 or less on Policy awareness, as do 41 of all 70.

For the most covered, policy is often the story: 22 of b.well Connected Health’s 43, mostly on CMS’s health-data push; 37 of Doctronic’s 81, on regulating AI; 17 of Particle Health’s 28, led by TEFCA. Their Policy awareness scores: 3, 1 and 0.

Clarium Health (2 posts) and Humata Health (1 post). New themes start on social: clinical AI tools have 42 posts against 5 press stories; health workforce, 31 against none.

How startups get covered

Eight of 495 stories say what a product did for a customer.

Lists and roundups add 142, executives’ own articles and interviews 18, research 15. Even the customer results lean on policy: four of the eight are early data from Utah’s pilot of Doctronic’s AI prescribing.
