Press: stories in the 75 outlets (1,302) and across all publishers (1,844), 28 Sep 2025 to 28 Sep 2026; releases, wire copy, sponsored pages and companies’ own channels left out. Social: 847 posts from Reddit (224), X (466) and LinkedIn (157), quoted as written and cut at 200 characters; private individuals appear by role, Reddit posts by subreddit, without names or links. Engagement: likes, comments and shares.

    Method

    How we measured it.

    The companies

70 US healthtech startups at Series A to C, from a vetted list of 72: venture-backed, based in the US, with 10 to 200 employees and working in healthcare technology, on the list’s own figures. Two have since been acquired: Humata Health by R1 and Reimagine Care by Cureety.

    The message score

Each company’s own messaging, read the way a buyer meets it: the homepage first, then its main pages, its LinkedIn and X pages and recent posts. Founders’ and employees’ own posts don’t count. Four factors, 0 to 5 each, for a total out of 20:

    • Clarity: whether a first-time visitor can tell what the company does, and for whom, from the homepage headline and subhead read together.
    • Differentiation: whether the company’s messaging says why this company, over the alternatives a buyer actually weighs, and how prominently.
    • Proof: named customers, quantified outcomes and third-party validation, and how easy they are to find.
    • Policy awareness: whether the pitch connects to how care is paid for or regulated, and to the policy changes now under way.

    Bands: Invisible 0 to 5; Muddled 6 to 10; Competent 11 to 15; Breaks through 16 to 20. Websites as of 28 Sep and 1 Oct 2026; LinkedIn and X as of 28 to 30 Sep 2026.

    The coverage

    28 Sep 2025 to 28 Sep 2026.

    • Press: stories in 75 outlets, from national news to health trades, ranked in five tiers by AI visibility (1,302 stories), with all publishers shown for comparison (1,844).
    • Social: 847 posts on the same five themes (payer innovation, AI governance, cost and revenue, workflow automation and clinician burnout): Reddit (224), X (466) and LinkedIn (157).
    • Tagging: each story and post carries its theme, the policy terms it matches (87 terms in 11 groups), the companies it names, what it reports and its tone. Homepages carry the policy terms they use.

    The 75 outlets by tier:

    • Tier 1 (11 outlets): highest AI visibility.
    • Tier 2 (23 outlets): strong national and trade reach.
    • Tier 3 (20 outlets): niche authority, cited on sector-specific queries.
    • Tier 4 (18 outlets): high credibility, limited by paywalls or crawler blocking.
    • Tier 5 (3 outlets): influential with people, rarely cited by AI.

    What’s left out

Press releases and wire copy (153 of the 915 results that news searches for the companies returned); sponsored and paid placements (47 in the 75 outlets); companies’ and organizations’ own channels; stories not about healthcare; posts that fit no theme; repeated posts.

    Limits

A year of coverage, sampled by search, not a census. Paywalled stories count from their headline and the summary any visitor sees. LinkedIn post search reaches back about a month. Private individuals appear by role, without a name or link; profanity is masked.

    We think in headlines

    Clear message, no megaphone?

Coverage goes to news. Having it, saying plainly what you do and getting it to the right reporters is the work. Tell us where you want to be heard.
